Delegates Affirm Conference Leadership
On April 29, 541 delegates convened at the Madison Campus Church for the 31st Regular Session of the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference. Elder Dan Jackson, president of the North American Division, opened the session with a devotional message.
The Nominating Committee, chaired by Dr. Ron Smith, president of the Southern Union, nominated Elder Steve Haley to serve as president of the conference for the next five years. Delegates readily affirmed the committee’s choice. Douglas Hilliard was re-elected as the conference treasurer. Hilliard has served as treasurer since 1989.
Elder Marvin Lowman, who has served as the Executive Secretary since July 1997, announced his retirement effective June 1. Elder Steve Rose was elected to serve in that role. Elder Rose is an Area Ministerial Director in the Georgia-Cumberland Conference. He and his wife, Doreen, will be returning to the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference where he grew up and also served as a pastor from 1989 to 1999.
All other department directors and associates were re-elected as follows: Tim Barker (Publishing Associate), Larry Boughman (Education), Armando DeLeon (Hispanic Ministries), David Hartman (Ministerial), Dan Herwick (Publishing Director), Brett Martin (Nourish Christian Marketplace Assistant Manager), Gail McKenzie (Women’s Ministries), Aaron McNulty (Assistant Treasurer), Barrett Mikkelsen (Information Technology), Lin Powell (Planned Giving), Doug Thompson (Nourish Christian Marketplace Manager), Ken Wetmore (Youth), John Willeford (Publishing Associate), and Pam Williams (Education Associate).
It was reported that, during the last five years more than 2,100 people joined the church by baptism or profession of faith. The conference’s membership at the close of 2011 was 13,942 – a growth of nearly 8% during the past five years.
