Fantastic Summer at ICC

“How was your summer?” It’s a common question for summer camp directors and it is one of my favorite questions to answer because it tells me people care what happens at Indian Creek Camp (ICC).

So how was the 2014 summer at ICC?  It was fantastic!  That’s the short answer.  The reason why is a little longer.

ICC’s primary mission is to help young people grow in their walk with Jesus.  So when we evaluate how a summer went one of the things I always consider is whether we did a good job with what is most important.  This summer we had 14 baptisms, 106 expressed interest in being baptized, 91 accepted Jesus as their personal Savior for the first time, 169 recommitted their life to Jesus, and 207 stated they want to share what they learned about God at camp with someone else.

Here are three quotes from commitment cards filled out by campers:

“This camp is always such an amazing camp.  I am agnostic and being at a Christian camp always makes me want to know about God more.”

“I want to dedicate more time to God.”

“When I was listening to tonight’s worship it really touched me…and I’ve thought about being baptized for a while, and I felt like here at camp just felt right.”

All this would not be possible without the financial support of churches and individuals.  In 2014, Kentucky-Tennessee Conference churches and ICC’s campership fund provided approximately $36,000 for almost 200 campers to attend ICC.  One camper who received assistance from a local church wrote, “I just spent a week at your camp.  That week was the best week of my life! I want to thank you all.”  As camp director I want to also “thank you all” for your financial support that allows young people to have a wonderful week and look forward to something better.  As this camper put it in a letter to us, “if I never see you on earth again I know I’ll see you in heaven where we will all be with the Lord and there will be no sin, sadness, death, or pain. Won’t that be great? I can’t wait!”

If Jesus doesn’t come back, we will have camp again next summer.  In 2014, we had a 12% increase over our record 2013 numbers and had several camps run out of space.  Registration has already opened for all of ICC’s 2015 summer camps.  One of the most popular camps during the 2014 season was Family Camp.  It is a value packed, all-inclusive vacation for the family.  ICC received rave reviews from families attending our family camps and already the family camps for 2015 are filling up.  For more information or to register for any of ICC’s camps go to www.indiancreekcamp.com or call 615-448-1023.

Yes, it was a great summer and I look forward to seeing you at camp in 2015!
